I love that you have a scent you remember your mom by. My mom's scent was Chanel #5. Those memories are a gift.

Gaping wound is a good description. Giant hole. All of it. But I am supported by a lot of love and I am being gentle with myself when the waves of grief crash over me again and again. It's a process, I know. And I know mom is here helping me through it.
