Emma — The work for us is to pause when we hear the words and recognize that it’s not about us, it’s about society’s inability to accept those who are different. It’s also about people being emotionally illiterate and unable to assess how their remarks will make us feel. Although it stings, and it’s embarrassing, I have learned to immediately come to my inner child’s defense and reassure her she is perfect just the way she is. When other people feel they have a right to point out in an unkind way what they perceive as our faults, they are the ones who are showing their character flaws, not us.

I wish you healing and happiness. ♥
