Family estrangement is more common than you think. My siblings and I are estranged and after mom died the cord that once held us together completely severed. It has been hard for me, but I have a lot of friends and other family that loves me and chooses me and that makes up for it. I think we don’t need family like we once did and that makes it easier to cut ties.
