I had to learn to stay in my lane when my mom made decisions I didn’t agree with, like choosing to sit down and wait to die rather than get up and move around so she wouldn’t wither. It was so hard to watch but I learned to accept that she had a right to decide when and how she wanted to die, even though I knew she would live longer if she moved more. I learned to love her where she was rather than expect her to be what I needed her to be.
There’s so much meat in this article, Bebe, and important conversations parents and children need to have. Thanks for writing.
