I think it’s a hybrid program. If we’re smart, we’ll absorb the wisdom of others. But there’s some wisdom we can only gain the hard way, no matter how many times people try to tell us. The older I get the more wisdom I absorb because I know I don’t have time- or the desire! - to earn my wisdom the hard way anymore.
