In the richest country in the world, no one should fear going bankrupt and losing their house because of a medical emergency or chronic condition. Medicine should not be for profit. When huge corporations took over our hospitals the patients were no longer the priority. Paying out huge dividends to shareholders is now more important than giving quality care. Not to mention that the insurance paradigm makes denying claims lucrative and paying claims bad business. It has to change and some day it will, but money is power and it won’t happen without a fight.

I’m sorry you had to worry about staying solvent instead of focusing on your daughter’s health. May we come to our senses sooner than later.
