n.b. — thanks for your response. It is so true that when you are rejected by your child everyone thinks it must be your fault. Even if there is mental illness, it still must be your fault that they are mentally ill. No matter what you say to people, it sounds like you are making excuses. It is a very lonely place to be as a parent.

I am glad your child came back, and I hope someday you will heal from the residual and ongoing pain.
