Oh Carole- I’m so sorry! Your story is an eye-opener in many ways. We don’t usually think about what we will do if we are injured as an elder and need care. The part about needing bathing and dressing help really jolted me.
My husband fell off a ladder last year and broke his wrist. His break was not as bad as yours, but it took him over a year to recover. It still bothers him sometimes. He’s 70.
When my mom fell and broke her vertebrae it made her afraid to walk again. I was always so sad for her because it totally robbed her of her life. My therapist told me the trauma was in her nervous system and that she had PTSD. She suggested EMDR therapy, but my mother wouldn’t try it. She rarely left her chair after that. I hope you can overcome your fear and walk freely without fear again. Look into EMDR if possible.
Wishing you all the best as you recover and hoping you return to your active and healthy life soon. ❤️
