Stop the World, I Want to Get Off

I don’t feel safe in the world anymore

Today, my neighbors put up a flag that says “F*%k Biden.” I also saw a truck this week with the same message emblazoned across its side not with spray paint, but professionally done. This guy felt this message so strongly he paid big bucks to get it painted on his truck. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against people having a different opinion, but how did we get to the place where profane messages are being so proudly displayed? Our neighbor has a 6 year old. How are they explaining that flag to him?

Another neighbor has a solid black American flag flying in his front yard. My research tells me that this flag was first used during the American civil war and was considered the opposite of a white flag. Confederate soldiers flew it as a sign that they were not backing down and not taking prisoners. The enemy would be killed. So what, exactly, does my neighbor mean by flying this flag? Who is the enemy? Anyone who doesn’t agree with him? Is he preparing to go to war?

This is just the newest of the anxiety inducers that is making me rethink whether I really want to live on this planet. The last 19 months have reignited my life-long anxiety and I have suffered headaches, sleep issues, exhaustion, and despair at intervals. I am now learning methods to bring my nervous system back…
