The health care system in this country is designed for the corporations who own the hospitals, the pharmaceutical companies and the insurance industry. It is not designed with the health and well being of people in mind.
I had to have emergency surgery while I was in WA in September, and the total costs were over $50,000. My insurance company immediately denied the claims as out of network, even though it was an emergency. But, a wonderful miracle happened. I was encouraged to apply for financial assistance from Peace Health, the company that owns the hospital where I was treated. I expected a small amount of help, which would not have been nothing. But they ended up covering the entire bill!! That’s the first time I have ever had such a positive outcome from any interaction with the healthcare system in this country.
