This is a thought provoking question. Thank you for presenting it for us to mull over. I agree with those who said if your words move someone- make them laugh, make them cry, make them think, reconnect them to a memory, open their eyes to see the world in a new light, make them feel better about themselves and their lives- then you are a writer.

Sometimes, something I write may only reach one person, but if it affects them in any way for the good, then it was worth writing. I believe this makes me a writer. And you are a writer, too, Paul. Without a doubt!
